Kitting Constuction

An often overlooked feature required by this industry is the ability to handle kitting. As it is important to be efficient in supplying the proper parts to a customer, providing the right kit and its components is equally important to many types of customers. Kits within the AutoPower system, can be accessed from the Part Inquiry display at the counter, or within the Order Entry system while entering a customer order.
There are two types of kitting capabilities designed into the AutoPower system. One is the kit Built-to-Order for the customer and the other is a kit that is Built-to-Stock.
Built-to-Order kits can consist of any number of parts. For those with repair facilities, labor can be a component of the kit supplied to the shop. The extended cost of the components in the kit will be used in determining the overall profit of the kit while the selling price can be fixed, or an extension of the components.
The Order Entry program contains a convenient feature that allows the display of the components of the kit being sold. While displaying the components, any component part can be eliminated, or the quantity of any component can be changed. Of course, manipulating the components will reduce the cost, but may optionally not reduce the selling price.
Built-to-Stock kits capability is a simple Bill-of-Materials system. Creating this kind of kit allows the assembly of the kit in a Bill-of-Materials process. Procedures are used to create a Work Order that command any number of the kits to be assembled and packaged for stocking on the shelf. Features allow for the automatic adjusting of the component inventory, as well as the finished goods inventory.
