Core Management

Quite similar to the warranty inventory control features just described, the AutoPower system contains capabilities of maintaining an inventory of core returns from the customer. As a core is returned via the Order Entry system, the cores are placed into a special Accounting file for later shipment back to the supplier. These cores will be physically placed into special bins or drums in the warehouse for future processing. When its time to return the cores of a specific supplier or manufacturer, a Core Inventory Report can be printed listing the parts, quantities, core value and the extended value. Then, using a special core report, the warehouse clerk can pull the proper parts and make them ready for pickup.
Some businesses do not treat cores as a profit center, the value of the cores returned, versus the value charged the customer, versus the expected credit from the supplier could cause a loss of revenue. Of course, the supplier will evaluate the cores before determining the amount of the core credit to be issued. Quite often the value of the cores is quite a bit less than expected. Discussed in the Order Entry section is an ability within the AutoPower system to control cores while making a profit from them.
